Vanilla Powell Beane

Legacy

Vanilla Beane was a mother, friend, businesswoman, and Washington icon. Mrs. Beane's family is grateful to her the community for celebrating her life and legacy; and, to the many loyal customers who purchased pieces of history that helped support Bené Millinery for over 40 years.

Through this legacy project, Mrs. Beane's family hopes to establish a foundation to preserve the legacy of Vanilla Beane.

Bené Millinery has closed its doors. We are working to create a storefront to showcase Vanilla Beane's work, including some of her original hat designs, and pieces of her original store, at 6217 3rd Street NW, located in the Manor Park neighborhood of Washington, DC.

The beautiful hats made during Mrs. Beane's tenure as owner and operator of Bené Millinery were one of a kind, and created and sold to customers as they were ordered. At this time, there are no custom made hats for sale, as they were all custom made.

If you would like to make a monetary donation to support the family's efforts, please refer to this link.
